Shan Lanen: I think you should get a bigger car and let him have the 6 seater, but try to get one with good gas mileage(:
Coy Tapley: An SUV. I have one and I love it. It sits eight people, it's great for carpooling, and there is plenty of space for 3 kids and their friends.
Oren Eskelsen: As long as the six seater gets good gas mileage, I would say get a new SUV or minivan. You can even get a roomy hybrid version, like the Ford Escape or (if you have the budget) a Cadillac Escalade. This will give you more space but keep the good mpg's.Plus if you need to trade cars for a day or something you'll still be good on gas. Just consider, is there ample parking space where your husband is driving? It might be nice to have a smaller car if he works in a densely populated area....Show more
Thurman Buege: Thanks to all for great advice. We will mull it all over and you all had thought of things we had not considered! Thanks
Blair Abdi: How far is the comm! ute and how much do you want to spend? From a strictly economic view, I think the best thing is to buy a small high mpg vehicle, like the Corolla - that way you have the newest safety equipment, very low operating/maintenance costs, and very low acquisition costs. The longer the commute, the better return on the investment. Start putting $300/month away now so when it is time to replace your vehicle you have the cash.If you decide to get a bigger ride now (I have the Yukon XL, love it) negotiate hard. Remember, rebates are from the factory, you want a discount from the dealer too!Good Luck!...Show more
Cody Petrulis: you should get a bew car with better mileage and you can give the six seater to your husband!
Russell Mckinzie: Well, both vehicles SHOULD be able to transport the entire family in case one ends up in the shop or in an accident. As long as your car is good on gas, then a minivan or wagon would be good for sports equipment and kids. In my opinion, I! would not get a second car that could not accomodate all of y! our family.
Collin Pelfrey: In the end this decision is between you and your husband. I would suggest getting a cheap commuter car for your husband. In these tough economic times you may regret splurging on an SUV as well as the amount of gas they take in the long run. Mini vans are great for car pooling, fairly priced, and offer good gas mileage as well as an array of entertainment options for the kiddies. But do you really want to spend that kind of money on a new vehicle? That is the question you and your husband should go over before making a decision....Show more
