It is common in the USA for people to move from one city or town to another because the school system in the new town is reputed to be better. Or, for parents to insi! st that their kids go to one school instead of another. So, th! e end result of this lack of standards is that some US schools are excellent, and others are dismally bad. All of my kids went to high school at a public high school that is listed in the "Top 500" list. They have done really, really well in college and their professions. I tutor a lot of smart kids from both private and public schools. Sometimes their schools are doing a poor job, and sometimes they are very well prepared by their schools.
