Alternative fuel sources?

Florencio Dingle: If we compare sunlight to plants to bio fuels used in an internal combustion engine with sunlight to PV electricity used in an electric car the second is approximately 100 times more efficient. Like this every alternative to electricity is less efficient for transportation. But we have a great deal of existing infrastructure. Do we accept that it is time to make a change or work very hard to keep existing technology that will over time not be useful in any event. Fuel systems excel at storage and transportation is an issue. Electricity excels at transmission and storage is an issue. The appropriate infrastructure / design for an EV would be electrified roadways to vehicles with minimal on board storage. http://powerlanecorporation.com/former-bechtel-flu...The transportation sector causes about 30% of US pollution. Changing the fleet to electric could significantly reduce fossil fuel use. But approximately 70% of the electric grid in the US is ba! sed upon fossil fuel power with about 40% from Coal, the worst offender. The electric grid adds approximately 40% to our overall pollution. There is sufficient power in each source Solar, onshore wind, offshore wind, dry well geothermal to power the US electric grid many times over. Once again the resources are there so what is needed is the will to move from existing infrastructure to a new paradigm. To make this move a majority of people and leadership must become convinced that the old way is not working and that a new course must be set. Technology is not the issue. A shift in our level of satisfaction is required. Something better and cheaper may not be enough. Seeing the presently system as deadly may have to become a majority view....Show more

Branden Round: Water-fueled cars is one heck of a lifesaver although they are hidden by corrupt multibillion fuel corporations since if that happened their business would fail

Vida Miss: I Know a Electric c! ar powered by lithium ion batteries

Shawn Lelis: alterna! tive fuel sources is important to human life. without fuel human being can not live. there is alternative sources of fuels like sunlight, water resources etc

Anibal Katayama: Batteries and hydrogen are methods of chemically storing energy, well so are gasoline and diesel. Indeed fossil fuels are the chemically stored solar energy collected by nature over millions of years. The problem with fossil fuels is that they are hydrogen and carbon that had been sequestered from the environment for millions of years and therefore their use upsets the cycles of nature. We actually know how to efficiently synthesize linear hydrocarbons from a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen gases called syngas since the 1920's. We've even fueled entire nations with synthetic fuel, WWII Germany, embargoed South Africa, even the US now dilutes it's high sulfur diesel with synthetic diesel to meet the federal ultra low sulfur diesel requirements. The heaviest of the Alberta Tarsand bit! umen are gasified into syngas and synthesized into a synthetic crude. We normally get our syngas from the gasification and steam reformation of coal or natural gas, but we also get it from the gasification of wood, agricultural debris, trash and dried sewage. We also can make it our of CO2 and H2O if we have an energy source. We effectively can store energy as synthetic gasoline and diesel very efficiently, it's just that producing or collect energy ourselves to store can never compete with the energy stored for us by nature. An interesting thing is that if the syngas are made by gasification of biomass, and the charcoal byproduct used as biochar, some of the carbon is sequestered. The fuel becomes carbon negative and actually removes CO2 from the atmosphere.Ultimately, we need an abundant inexpensive source of energy to store as hydrocarbons or as any other fuel that could be proposed as there isn't enough biomass to synthesize all the fuel we need. But we have such a! source in Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactors. An electric car is more eff! icient than a gasoline car but when you consider the inefficiencies of the batteries, grid and the power plant, they're pretty much the same. Considering that we have over a billion existing internal combustion vehicles, an established fuel delivery infrastructure and there is an immense environmental cost in replacing existing vehicles, the best alternate fuel is gasoline and diesel, just not from fossil reserves....Show more
