He still works for Microsoft on a part time basis. Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, was fired by Apple but was later brought back to the company.The board of directors of a corporation are elected by the shareholders. The board then runs the company. So a board could fire the founder. However, most corporations are small companies and have very few shareholders. If you started a corporation and didn't seek any outside investors or have any partners, you would be the only shareholder. So you would have 100% control over who was on the board. In most states you could even hold all officer positions and be the only member of the board. Since you would be the board, you could fire yourself, but that is unlikely to happen.Large publicly traded companies such as Microsoft or Apple have much larger board of director! s and millions of outstanding shares of stock. Even though the founder may own a large portion of the stock, it is rare for him to own a majority of the shares once the company goes public.
